In the company of books

I grew up reading whatever books I could lay my hands on - Hungarian folk tales from my dad’s artistic collection, Reader’s Digest at my uncle’s place, Bollywood magazines that I stole from my mom’s collection (I could not read my mom’s actual good book collection as she reads a lot in Telugu and back then I could not read the script).

I have been reading on and off over the past years. 2019 had been a difficult year for me. I hardly read books. So when the pandemic hit in March 2020, I started reading books that were sitting on my bookshelf for a while. I started enjoying that feeling of being lost in a book for a while. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. When there was chaos everywhere, sitting in a corner with a book in my hand had been my safe space.

I tend to feel lonely as people around me aren’t as excited about books as I am. This led to me joining some book clubs and engaging in fulfilling discussions. I also hosted my own book club for Invisible Women. There is so much to unpack in there.

I am grateful to have found my place in the world of books. I read some really good books in 2020. I have made the shift from Goodreads to Storygraph. Join me there and let’s talk about all things books?
